Log Ho

This past Saturday we took the boat up the Georgiana Slough to Ox Bow Marina for safety day at the Ox Bow Yacht Club. We learned about docking and raft up procedures for Ox Bow YC cruise outs, plus got some tips and tricks for things like anchoring in the delta and requesting bridge openings.

We headed back to Willow Berm Sunday and passed a HUGE log floating in the Georgiana. We're not sure if it followed us home but there was an equally huge log behind our slip shortly after we pulled in. Glad it want there AS we were pulling in. Scary.

Mildred

We are safely anchored at Mildred Island, a large sunken Island. We saw very few boats on the way here and there are only a couple others here. It's a bit hazy but overall a beautiful day.

NOLA / Southern Yacht Club

I generally stick to boating topics but I wanted to mention our trip last weekend to New Orleans. It seems a lot of people think New Orleans is still devastated by Katrina and the BP spill. New Orleans is doing fine and the oyster beds are thriving! We had a great time in "the big easy" and highly recommend a visit.

On a more boating related note, we had the pleasure of eating lunch at Southern Yacht Club while we were in town. SYC is the second oldest yacht club in the United States. Their current building is, I believe, their fifth and was built after Katrina. The previous building survived the storm but was destroyed by fire that burned unchecked shortly after the hurricane. The new building is quite nice and the food and service were wonderful.

We would not hesitate to visit New Orleans and Southern Yacht Club in the future! We barely scratched the surface of things to see and do in NOLA so a return trip is definitely in order.
